Hamelner Loch

As an important trade route, the river Weser once brought Hamelin great prosperity.
However, in order to call at the town of the Pied Piper, ships had to pass through a much-dreaded point on the river - the “Hamelner Loch”. Because the Weser was dammed and weirs made it impossible for them to continue their journey on the river, all the ships were raised with the aid of a winch and then returned to the water via a form of chute across the weir. Today ships negotiate the dams and differing water levels on the river with the aid of sluice gates.

Off we go through the "Hamelner Loch"
